NDStudios VR Escape Room

For their annual Escape Room project, the Themed Entertainment Association at Notre Dame (TEA@ND) broke new ground in two categories: the first fully student-led VR project at Notre Dame and the first high-fidelity Digital Twin of a campus building!

Using models of the brand-new Martin Media Commons Center designed by ND Studios's own Chad Hoefle and coached by staff from Teaching and Learning Technologies and the Navari Family Center for Digital Scholarship , the students storyboarded, designed, voice-recorded, and encoded a thrilling adventure game. Players assume the title of a newly-recruited intern at ND Studios and are thrown into the controlled chaos of football game-day. Quick! Get those cameras hooked up! Does that soundboard look right? Are we live yet? Hurry, hurry, hurry!

Developed and deployed for the Spring 2022 Martin Media Commons Center Conference, the game was so popular with staff and visitors that it was redeployed a second time for the Anniverary Celebration, as the Martin family came to visit the Center in August of that year.
